the temple of God
"Him who overcomes, I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God and I will also write on him my new name."Revelation 3:12
The characteristics of a pillar are to support the building and remain as a decorative piece in the building. The church is equaled to a pillar. We read about that in I Timothy 3:15, the church of the living God is a pillar and foundation of the truth. The church, here, means us (I Corinthians 3:16). Since we are the temple of God, we have to keep ourselves holy and pure as the Lord lives within us.
A decorated pillar is appreciated better than a plain one. It always attracts a second glance. A passer-by stands in awe of it for its strength and beauty. Jeremiah explains this decorated pillar as a strength for the temple of God (Jeremiah 52:12). Considering ourselves as a pillar is not sufficient. We should also be a decorated pillar. When we bear the fruits of spirit we will also become a decorated pillar. The fruits of spirit include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5: 21,22). If these control our lives then anyone who comes in contact with us will be touched by it.
The Lord declares today, I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land . They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you (Jeremiah 1:18,19). When you are made a pillar none will be able to fight against you. The difficulties which you face today are only transient. In the end you will be victorious. Because the Lord himself is fighting the battle for you.
Jesus disciples, James, Peter and John, were reputed to be pillars (Galatians 2:9). What made them to be called as pillars. St. Paul testifies about the great ministry done by James (Acts 21:19). It shows his zeal to do service of the Lord. Peter is portrayed as a tender hearted person (John 21:17). John had to spend his last days in the island of Patmos among the criminals and suffered much because he was a doing the ministry of God. These people had to sacrifice their lives to become a pillar.
Do you also want to be a pillar for God? Then, you should follow the statutes of God, deny yourself and be a witness for Him. It is not easy but the Lord will give you the strength to follow His ways.
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy, to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore.
