give you a new heart
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgements and do them."Ezekiel 36:26,27
Small children are innocent and have a gentle heart. When someone is suffering their heart goes out for them. As we grow older, overburdened with the cares of this world, our heart becomes callous. We inflict pain and hurt on others with or without our knowledge. At the expense of others, we have fun, acquire wealth and fame. As long as the end justifies the means we are least bothered about others. But that is not the plan of God in our lives. He wants us to live a righteous life, obey his commandments and live according to them. Therefore, he wants to give us a new heart and take away the heart of stone.
In one of the parable Jesus compares our heart to a land (Luke 8:515). A sower sows seeds. Some fell by the wayside and it was trampled down and the birds devoured it. Some fell on rock, and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns and thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, and yielded a crop of hundred fold.
In the above parable, the land is compared to the heart. In the first example, birds are compared to devil which does not allow the word of God to enter our heart. Hence, immediately after receiving the word, we forget about them. It is not even given a chance. It is like reading this newsletter and considering it as junk and deleting it. Secondly, Rocks are the hard hearted ones. They listen to the word of God since they do not have the foundation, they do not adhere to the words. Here the water is referred to the water baptism. Jesus says water baptism is important. Those who have not taken it will not enter the kingdom of God. Thirdly, thorns are compared to worries of the world. After listening to the words, they are choked with cares, riches and pleasure of life and bring no fruit to maturity. Fourthly, the fertile land is compared to the person who after hearing the word of God does accordingly and bear fruit.
The Lord wants all of us to be like the fertile land. He says,"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols" (Ezekiel 36:25). Surrender your lives to him, he will clean your heart of all the filth, such as envy, idolatry, adultery, pride, etc. As you read this newsletter, the Lord says, "Do not harden your hearts, as in the days of rebellion" (Psalms 95:8). Every now and then, you have been chastised by the Lord to listen to him and obey his commandments, but you have been ignoring the warning. The Lord says, "He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy" (Proverbs 29:1). If you would listen to him today, he will cleanse you and create in you a new heart which is made of flesh. A heart which responds to the sufferings of others and help them. At the same time, if you harden your heart you will fall into calamity (Proverbs 28:14).
I pray that God would help you to surrender your lives to him that he may create in you a new heart and obey the commandments of God.
