the Last Days
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy..." II Timothy 3:1-5
We have come to last days of the world where everyday we read about burglaries, murder, hatred for each other, violence, war, and so on. Not only that we also come across in our daily life such people. Jesus said during the last days we would see more of such people. A big list is given in II Timothy 3:1-5, a part of which is given in the above verse. Shall we analyze our and see if we fall into any of these groups. If so, God is giving us a chance to turn away from such a living and lead a righteous life. If we refuse to accept this offer we never know if we would get another chance.
Jesus came into this world to bless everyone. In turn, he expects us to be a blessing to others. It is not sufficient if we earn and spend for ourselves. We should be concerned about our neighbors too. We can help others by giving food, clothing, shelter, go and attend to the sick people at least say some comforting words, and visit our friends or neighbors when they are sick. faith is good but faith without actions is dead. Jesus never approves of anyone who are selfish. He says, "I was hungry and you gave Me no food. I was thirsty and you gave no drink. I was stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me" (Matthew 25:42,43). Shall we make it a point to spend sometime for others.
Lovers of money
Bible says, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (I Timothy 6:1). Love of money have made many to work day and night without spending time with their family. Due to this they lose the love of their loving spouse and children. Apart from this they also get caught in unnecessary business proposals, traps, etc. Greediness have made some to become murderers of their own family members and trusted friends. We should learn to lead a life of contentment. A content heart brings peace to oneself and those who are around them. Judas, betrayer of Jesus Christ, loved money more than Jesus. It blinded his eyes to the love of his master and betrayed him. Finally, we find that the money he earned by betraying Jesus could not be enjoyed by him but end up committing suicide due to guilt. His end was a tragic one. No one would like to have his end, therefore, shall we ask God to give us the grace to live happily with what we have got.
The Lord is against those who are proud but blesses a humble person. Goliath, the giant, boasted about his strength. But David though a small boy put his faith on the living God and killed the giant with a sling shot. The passage below describes the dialogue between them.
"And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field! Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the Armies of Israel, whom you have defied."
Gods grace will be with the humble so let us cast away the boastful spirit in us and learn to be humble in our speech.
Scripture says that "He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts" (Luke 1:51). God does not like those who are proud even in their heart. We should keep our heart and mind free from pride.
Bible has the used the term blasphemy in connotation with cursing someone especially God or parents. "Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in deep darkness" (Proverbs 20:20). Therefore, respect your parents and show them love and give them the attention they need. Since they have taken so much troubles in bringing you up, you should at least, during their last days, be a source comfort and not of thorn.
Disobedient to parents
Children of this generation are knowledgeable. They consider this positive trait as their right to disobey their parents. Parents should also teach them to be obedient even as they are very young and teach them the fear of the Lord. Because fear of the Lord alone would teach them to give them respect to the elders.
Analyze yourself if you fall under any one of the category mentioned. If so, repent and leave your unholy ways and ask God to help you lead a righteous life.
May the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, and the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord rest upon you.If you are blessed by this message kindly let us know, that we praise God together at firstname.lastname@example.org
