assured presence of God
"No one man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you." Joshua 1:5
The earth is filled with chaos and wickedness. Unable to find peace, many are pushed to commit suicide and some strike back at the world through violence and vengeance. Accepting Jesus Christ gives us the peace which no one can steal from us. To continue in the peace we need to have the presence of God with us always. In the Bible, we read that as the presence of God was with Joshua, he was enamored with might. He prospered in everything he did. Bible says, no one can stand before you if God be with you. Do you also want the presence of God to be with you?
From the life of Joshua we can learn some valuable lessons.
Joshua had the spirit of the Lord on him. The Scripture says, "And the Lord said to Moses, Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand on him . . . You shall give some of your authority to him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient " (Numbers 27:1820). Many accept Christ but do not believe in the Holy Spirit. If the Holy Spirit is with you, no one will be able to stand against you. When others see the power of spirit in you, they will fear you. If you are one of those who do not believe in the Holy Spirit, ask the Lord to anoint you with Holy Spirit and see the difference in your life.
Joshua did not depart from the tabernacle of the Lord (Exodus 33:11). Do we long to be with Lord. You will not be able to feel the presence of God before a television set. Many spend their time in television, theatre, and other recreation clubs. Instead sit with the Bible and pray in your free time. It will edify you personally, make you overcome your weaknesses and be blessing to others.
You should whole heartedly follow God. You cannot reserve a certain part of yourself and give the rest to the Lord. It is either all or none. Scripture says, Joshua wholly followed the Lord (Numbers 32:11,12). In everything we do, we should please the Lord. If the Lord is asking you to refrain from certain things or relationships which may not seem as sin for you, still obey the Lord and severe your ties from unholy relationships. God will bless you for that. You can never prove a point with God by arguing. Obey the Lord instantaneously, you shall not be let down by God. He knows what is best for your life. Joshua possessed the holiness and obedience within him. In a particular incident, when the angel of the Lord asked him to remove his sandals, he immediately obeyed and removed the sandals (Joshua 5:13-15). The angel of the Lord considered the ground in which Joshua was standing as holy. In our life, the sandals signify the old sinful life. God is asking you to come out of the sinful life, the sins which you dearly hold on to, the unholy relationships which you treasure more than life. Severe your ties with them. God is warning you today. if you obey the Lord he will bless you as he did Joshua.
Joshua is portrayed as a man who brings in good report. Twelve spies went to spy the land of Canaan. Ten of them said, although we find the land to be flowing with milk and honey, there are giants in the land who are capable of destroying all of us. They scared the people and inhibited them from pursuing the goal. But Joshua and Caleb said although there are giants we can overcome with the help of God. How do you view your problems? Can you see the intangible presence of God in your life which can overcome any problem or do you consider your problems to be greater than your God? Nothing is impossible for the Lord. All you need to do is bow yourselves before the almighty God he shall take care of your problem.
The life of Joshua shows us what we need to do to keep the presence of God with us always. If you follow them you shall be victorious in your life.
