Dwell in the Tabernacle of God?
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? Psalms 15:1
A Tabernacle is a place where God dwells. In the ancient times, when Moses made the tabernacle it depicted the model of Christs ministries for the salvation of God. During Moses period not everyone can enter the tabernacle, only the appointed can enter the tabernacle. When Christ died on the cross, the curtain in the temple was torn from top to down suggesting that the entry is free for all. In todays context, the tabernacle means the close relationship with Christ. To have a close communion with Christ, we should possess the following qualities.
1. He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness and speaks the truth in his heart (Psalms 15:2)
In todays world, to walk uprightly and lead a righteous life and to speak truth always is not easy. You may think it is no use leading a upright life. The world is not fair to me. Even though I lead a righteous life, the people around me are very wicked yet I see them prosper while I myself suffer for no wrong of mine. Bible says, "God will not cast away the blameless, nor will he uphold the evildoers" (Job 8:20). If you are discouraged person, take pride that God is with you.
If you are not able to lead a righteous life do not blame it on your surroundings. Job was also a human like us, yet he was certified by God himself for his righteousness (Job 1:8). Ask God and He will the same kind of strength as He gave to Job.
2. He who does not backbite with his tongue. Nor does evil to his neighbor. Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend (Psalms 15:3)
Many have the problem of backbiting. They talk sweetly to a person and malign them at their back. God hates such evil behavior. Confess your sin and repent from it. Do not listen when someone speaks bad about others. When we do not want to be maligned how can we malign others. Such habits can be removed by God alone. Pray that God will keep you out of it. Fill your mouth with praise of God that will prevent you from speaking \ listening ill of others.
3. In whose eyes a vile person is despised. But he honors those who fear the Lord. He who swears to his own hurt and does not change (Psalms 15:4)
Do not have fellowship with ungodly. This does not mean that you cannot speak to them. It means to have very close relationship with them which may culminate in marriage relationship or business partnership and so on. Ultimately, you will be tempted to follow their ways and go away from God.
Another important thing is to learn to honor your word. If you tell someone you will do a particular thing or meet them at a particular time, even if it is difficult honor your word. The people around you should know that you are a person of your word.
4. He who does not put out his money at usury. Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent (Psalms 15:5)
God hates anyone who takes bribes and lend their money for interest. If you want to become rich that is not the way. Instead follow the ways of God, he will raise you above all your friends and neighbors. You will also have peace of mind. Money gained through greed and coveteousness shall rob the peace from you and your family.
Those who follow what is said above, shall have close relationship with God.
