"I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth " Exodus: 34:10 (KJV)
Every day Christian living

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off – Proverbs 23:17,18

Christian living does not end with repenting on the day of accepting Christ as our savior and going back to the sinful life thereafter. Ever since you accept Christ, He expects you to follow His path to reach the eternity. This is the Christian living, which I have described below. You may ask what is the use of living a holy life everyday, when I see many who do not follow Christ lead a more happy life by being rich and able to do what they want. Is there a hope for me or am I going to end my life as anyone of them. The answer to this question lies in the above quoted verse. Do not let your heart envy sinners. Their so-called happy life ends here in this earth, after which they are put in hell but for us we have a hope in eternity where we shall rule with the Lord forever and ever in heaven.

What does everyday Christian living mean? How to lead a Christian life on a day-to-day basis? Everyday Christian living is not difficult if only you follow the simple steps.

Prayer

Prayer is an essential part of daily Christian living. Prayer maintains the close relationship between man and God. It gives us the right to pour our woes to Him and demand mercy. Psalmist says, "Be merciful to me, O Lord. For I cry to you all day long" (Psalms 86:3). We can have the assurance that God will hear our prayers and answer them.

Daniel prayed three times a day. The officials in the kingdom plotted against Daniel and forbade him from praying. This did not deter the spirit of Daniel. He, as was his routine, prayed thrice a day. Although he was put in the lion’s den, the lions could not harm him as the angels of the Lord had tied the mouth of the lions. Later those who plotted against Daniel were thrown into the lion’s den. The lions tore them to pieces even before they could touch the floor of the den. This is the power of prayer. Pray sincerely, no man can stand against you. Prayer changes things.

Jesus set us an example of how to pray. Jesus when He came into this world in the form of man, prayed early in the morning (Mark 1:35), prayed all night (Luke 6:12) and He fasted prayed. Do we get up early in the morning to pray? Do we pray in the night? Do we have a particular praying time everyday? If we do not then from today make it as a habit then you shall see great miracles in your life.

Bible reading

Reading the Bible is important so is the meditation of those words. It is not sufficient to read and forget them. St. Paul writes that the people in Berea were fair minded in that they received the word with all readiness and searched the scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so (Acts 17:10,11).

Why do we read the word of God? Because they are to be desired more than gold. It is much sweeter than the honey and honeycomb (Psalms 19:10,11). Some people complain that whatever they start end in disaster and lose. Failure in examination, business, family life, etc. makes a person totally dejected and does not know what to do. Psalmist says those who meditate on the word of the Lord shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither. And whatever he does shall prosper (Psalms 1:2,3).

Also reading the Bible gives joy, keeps us away from dejection and sorrow, (Psalms 119:16,162), gives life and health (Psalms 4:20), keeps us holy (Psalms 119:9), comforts us in times of sorrow (Psalms 119:49,50).

Meditate on His name

Meditating on the name of Jesus Christ gives salvation. There is no way to achieve salvation except through the name of Christ. He does not forsake those who seek the name of the Lord (Psalms 9:10). His name is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10).

Preach the word of God

You have been saved by the grace of God. Therefore, it is your duty to proclaim the word of God everyday to your family, friends and to whomsoever you come in contact (Acts 5:42, I Corinthians 9:16). Decide today to tell the word of God at least to one person per day whether you get the opportunity or not (II Timothy 4:2). When you come across a Christian brother/sister who is sins against the Lord, it is your duty to condemn the sin and bring them back into the fold.

The end of the world is coming soon. We neither know the day or the time. Are we anxiously waiting for the Lord when we shall join Him? Or do we dread the day? If you lead a Christian life everyday then you need not fear the end of the world because we shall always be prepared to go with Jesus.
