"I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth " Exodus: 34:10 (KJV)
Do you feel happy to go to the House of the Lord?

I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord." – Psalms 122:1

It is Sunday morning (for some it may be Friday) and it is time to get ready for the church. How do you feel about it? Do you feel happy or sad? King David said that he rejoiced when someone said let us go to the house of the Lord. Why? Because it is a place where there is singing, peace of mind, and the Lord is going to speak to you. He will teach us his ways, so that we walk in his paths. The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:3). Only if we know to rejoice in the Lord in this world will be able to rejoice in the presence of the Lord in eternity.

In the presence of the Lord there is singing and joy. If we want to reach that place we will have go through 12 different gates – Sheep gate, Fish gate, Jeshanah (Old) gate, Valley gate, Dung gate, Fountain gate, Water gate, Horse gate, East gate, Inspection gate, Ephraim gate and the Guard gate. Explanation about a few of them are given below:

  1. Sheep gate (Nehemiah 3:1)
  2. Sheep represents meekness and humility. Jesus himself was our example for humility. Bible says, "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth (Isaiah 53:7). We need to adorn humility. God loves those who are humble but is against the proud.

  3. Fish gate (Nehemiah 3:3) represents souls
  4. We follow many things in our life. Jesus said, "Come behind me and I will make you fishers of men" – Mathew 4:19. Jesus blessed everyone who followed him. He did many miracles – healed the sick, made the lame walk, delivered the demon possessed and raised the dead. If you go behind Jesus, you can experience all that and also become fishers of men.

  5. The Jeshanah (Old) gate (Nehemiah 3:6) means to praise and thank God for all that he had done to us.
  6. In Deuteronomy 8:2, 14-16 it says, he protected you from snakes and scorpions and from wild animals and enemies. He led you out of the land of slavery. He gave you food to eat. You should remember all that he has done for you and praise him.

  7. Valley gate (Nehemiah 3:13) also represents humility.
  8. To reach the eternal glory practice humility in this earth. Though Abraham was the wealthiest person of his time yet he considered himself to be the dust and ashes before God. How much more should we be? Remember your wealth, education, job, all these are nothing before God.

  9. Dung gate (Nehemiah 3:14) represents the sinful lives which we were leading before we accepted Christ.
  10. Before accepting Christ, we were leading a sinful life. Now that we have accepted Christ we should not go back to our old ways. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Strive hard with the help of Holy Spirit to stand against devil and conniving ways.

  11. Fountain gate (Nehemiah 3:15) represents life.
  12. God has given the fountain of life. If we drink from that fountain we shall never become thirsty again. Through daily devotion, prayer and reading Bible we can draw life sufficient for everyday. A life without these will become dead.

  13. Water gate (Nehemiah 3:26) represents baptism.
  14. Bible says, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. If you are person who has accepted Jesus Christ as your savior but has not taken water baptism, God once again reinstates the importance of baptism. If you would obey He will bless your life.

  15. The Horse gate (Nehemiah 3:28) represents power.
  16. The East gate (Nehemiah 3:28) represents Jesus Christ who is the symbolized with the sun which rises in the east.
  17. The Inspection gate (Nehemiah 12:31) represents blessings.
  18. The Ephraim gate (Nehemiah 12:39) represents the removal of ignorance and negligence in following Jesus Christ.
  19. The Guard gate (Nehemiah 12:39) represent blessings on leading a righteous life.

You can enter the eternal place of worship only if you pass through these gates. Check your lives if you lacking in anything which is not pleasing to the sight of God. If so, rectify them today and you will be blessed abundantly.
