"I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth " Exodus: 34:10 (KJV)
Escape for thy life

Escape for thy life. Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed – Genesis 19:17

God asked Abraham to leave his dwelling place and go to a place which He shows. Abraham took Sarah, his wife, and Lot, his nephew along with the cattle and servants. On their journey, there came a time when the family of Abraham and Lot could not co-inhabit due to their large herds. Abraham gave Lot the option to choose the land which he liked. Lot chose a green pastureland, Sodom. Lot was attracted by Sodom’s people and its culture. He did not realize the danger lurking behind the green pasture. Sodom was inhabited by immoral people and none were righteous in that land. God, therefore, decided to destroy Sodom. Before that out of his abounding mercy He wanted to rescue Lot and his family from Sodom. Two angels came to the house of Lot and dragged by their hands and brought them out of Sodom. They said, "Escape for thy life. Look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain. Escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed" – Genesis 19:17.

Why does God ask him to flee to mountain? What does it mean to us? The experience of fleeing to mountain signifies departing from worldly ways, not conforming to this world, offering us as a living sacrifice, and to wait in one accord and pray.

Do not conform to this world

Jesus has called us to lead holy life. We may live in this world but the world should not live in us. Men who lead an unrighteous life will face the wrath of God on the day of Judgement. To escape this wrath, do not walk after flesh but be led by the Holy Spirit. Do not be entwined with the cares of the world but look firmly upon Jesus Christ to provide for you.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit – Romans 8:1.

Prophet Malachi says "A day comes that shall burn as an oven and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble and that day that comes shall burn them up says the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch" – Malachi 4:1. If you do not lead a separated life then you shall also be seized on that day.

Present your bodies as a living sacrifice

Living sacrifice means to allow the Lord reign in your mind and body. Things which we are gain for us should be considered as loss for Christsake. God in order to test Abraham asked him to sacrifice his only son. Abraham neither consulted with his wife nor with his son but took Isaac to mountain to sacrifice him. He knew that his wife and son would deviate his mind from doing the will of God. God acknowledged the obedience of God and gave back Isaac to him. In our life also we should be willing to do the will of God even if it means we may be under lose. Only such sacrifice is acceptable to God as holy.

I beseech you therefore, brethern, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service – Romans 12:1.

Pray in one accord

The mountain experience also gives us the experience of being alone with God. It shows the importance of prayer life. The impetus of our life should be prayer. Pray for your nation, which is going through rough times. Pray in tears for those unsaved lives around you. Pray for the unsaved children and spouse. If you do not pray for them then who will pray for them? Pray with tears and fasting. The world needs your prayer. Pray for your church, for its growth, and pray for the satanic force which works against the church. We are in the last days; the doors of evangelization will soon be closed, pray for the deliverance of the soul before that. A day will come when the words of God will not be allowed to be preached freely, pray that God may rise up more and more labourers to harvest the yield. Pray! Pray! Pray!

They all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren – Acts 1:14.

In those days when the believers prayed God performed miracles in the church and poured the Holy Spirit on everyone. Pray before the arrival of the eternal darkness.

Finally, the mountain experience also teaches us to separate from the traditions of the world. Despite being a born-again Christian many still follow the old customs of the community from which they were saved. Also do not be carried away by the human philosophy and vain deceit. Satan is like a roaring lion to devour anyone who would heed to him. He is the old trickster who uses many tricks to snatch away the Christians from the church. Do not allow yourself to be deceived.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ – Colossians 2:8.

God says escape for your life to the mountain. In the above paragraphs, we have seen what the mountain experience means to us. Ask the Lord to give you the mountain experience.

May the Lord bless you.
